Connection checklist

  1. On the Mac, open System Settings, General, Sharing and turn on Remote Login.
  2. Install tmux with brew install tmux. Kessik looks in /opt/homebrew/bin and /usr/local/bin.
  3. Install Claude Code and run claude once in Terminal to sign in.
  4. In Kessik, open Settings and enter the hostname, username and port of the Mac.
  5. Away from home, turn on Tailscale on both devices and use the Tailscale address.

Common problems

The host key changed

Kessik saves the first host key a Mac shows. If a later connection shows a different key, the app stops. This happens after a Mac is reset or replaced. It can also mean someone is intercepting the connection, so confirm the change before you trust it.

The Remote Control message shows in the terminal

Remote Control needs a claude.ai login on the Mac. If Claude Code uses an API key, it still starts, and it shows a Remote Control error.

The .local name does not work

A .local name works on the same Wi-Fi only. Use the Tailscale address on other networks.

Kessik does not support Mosh. The app saves one Mac at a time.
